Being sanctioned as a Trip Leader means the organiser, leader, sweeps and participants are insured directly with COA's own insurance

 A Trip Leader organises small group activities—usually 3 to 10 vehicles—the Trip Leader holds the ultimate responsibility for the safety of the participants and the protection of the environment. A COA Trip Leader can organise small group activities for users of on-road and off-road Recreational Vehicle (RV), ie. caravan and motorhome, camper trailer and fifth wheel, etc. as well as , 4WD and SXS (SSV, UTV, ROV), classic and historic, hot rod and custom, kit car, marque specific, mixed and enthusiast, muscle and performance, modern and special interest, etc. Trip Leaders can organise social opportunities like cruises, meet ups, show and shine, etc.

A Trip Leader sanction means the Leader has official permission or approval by COA to receive or entertain members in motor vehicle, recreational vehicle and related activities. The fee for Trip Leaders to sanction with COA only requires Shareholder Membership to COA. All persons participating in COA small group activities that are organises and led by a COA sanctioned Trip Leader, receive free temporary membership to COA to participate in the sanctioned activities. A Trip Leader sanction only permits small group activities.

Leaders are insured directly with COA's own insurances, which includes $20M Public Liability and provides protection for Leaders in the event a person brings a claim against an Leader due to them being injured or sustaining property damage as a result of a Leaders negligent activities. COA Leaders are also covered with COA's Officials Liability, which provides Leaders indemnity against ‘wrongful acts' committed by ‘Leaders' acting on behalf of motor vehicle, recreational vehicle and related activities held under the auspices of COA.

Sanctioning means Leaders agree to comply with the requirements of COA, which includes following the COA Activity Codes, which is a set of rules that has been prepared to assist COA Leaders to plan, run and manage motor vehicle, recreational vehicle and related activities safely, while meeting legal requirements, government standards and health and safety obligations. The Code is applicable to motor vehicle, recreational vehicle and related activities, and sets a standard of practice for all.

In return for sanctioning as a Trip Leader with COA, Leaders can rest assured that:

  1. Leaders will be covered with $20M public liability insurance to cover the motor vehicle, recreational vehicle and related activities;
  2. All members participating in a small group activity are also insured and the responsibility of COA;
  3. Any and all liability for members using an approved private property is removed from the property owner and placed solely on COA through a simple licence agreement;
  4. Personal liability is removed from the Leader whilst acting on behalf of the motor vehicle, recreational vehicle and related activities held under the auspices of COA;
  5. All volunteers providing assistance with the organisation and management of COA's small group activities will be covered with personal accident insurance.

COA can make such assurances that sanctioning with us will provide the protection that Leaders should have to protect them and their assets!
