Driving Growth: Why the COA Auto Business Sanction is a Game-Changer for the Australian Automotive Industry

 Automotive businesses in Australia are diverse and can be on-road or off-road oriented and include dealers, restylers, retailers, etc. and may be associated with 4WD, SXS (SSV, UTV, ROV), classic, historic, hot rod, custom, kit car, marque specific, mixed, enthusiast, muscle, performance, modern, special interest, etc. In the past, automotive businesses could easily access the insurance required to provide social opportunities for their customers like cruises, demo days, meets, shop nights, workshops, etc. but those days of easily accessing insurance for such activities are long gone, that is until now. An Auto Business sanction with COA means the business is permitted to nominate an activity Organiser and has has official permission or approval by COA to receive or entertain customers, and or is a venue providing facilities for COA automobile and related activities. The fee for businesses to sanction with COA is conditional upon the number of people to participate in the proposed activities.

Organisers are insured directly with COA's own insurances, which includes $20M Public Liability and provides protection for Organisers in the event a person brings a claim against an Organiser due to them being injured or sustaining property damage as a result of an Organisers negligent activities. COA Organisers are also covered with COA's Officials Liability, which provides Organisers indemnity against ‘wrongful acts' committed by ‘Organisers' acting on behalf of automobile and related activities held under the auspices of COA.

Sanctioning means Organisers nominated by the member auto business agree to comply with the requirements of COA, which includes following the COA Activity Codes, which is a set of rules that has been prepared to assist COA Organisers to plan, run and manage automobile and related activities safely, while meeting legal requirements, government standards and health and safety obligations. The Code is applicable to automobile and related activities, and sets a standard of practice for all.

In return for sanctioning as an Auto Business with COA, Organisers can rest assured that:

  1. Organisers will be covered with $20M public liability insurance to cover the automobile and related activities;
  2. All members participating in an activity are also insured and the responsibility of COA;
  3. Any and all liability for members using an approved private property is removed from the owner and placed solely on COA through a simple licence agreement;
  4. Personal liability is removed from the Organiser whilst acting on behalf of the automobile and related activities held under the auspices of COA;
  5. All volunteers providing assistance with the organisation and management of activities will be covered with personal accident insurance.

COA can make such assurances that sanctioning with us will provide the protection that Organisers should have to protect them and their assets!
